The Threshold: On the Artist as a Shaman-Like Figure
The first in a series on shamanism and contemporary art. On the resemblance between two figures — the shaman and the artist — and what it means to work at the threshold between worlds.
Virtual Studio Groups is a space for artistic growth, peer feedback, and collective knowledge-sharing — without the constraints of physical location. We meet every Sunday. We are artists from 10+ countries.

The first in an ongoing series of VSG conversations on color — on the red that produces a physical sensation, butterfly wings that are not blue, and the ten million colors that have no name.
On networks, presence, and what grows when artists gather with intention — a reflection from VSG co-founder Gordana Zikic on what we are actually building together.

The Virtual Studio Groups project evolved from our virtual residency program, initiated during the pandemic. With a decade-long history of art residency in Belgrade and a vast artist network, the project grew organically.
We meet every Sunday evening. No hierarchy, no predetermined outcomes. Just artists, talking honestly about their work.
Virtual Studio Groups is more than a meeting. Through artist presentations, interviews, publications, exhibition projects, and our online magazine, we create space for visibility, reflection, collaboration, and long-term artistic development. Every conversation, every connection, every article adds to a growing archive and network that benefits everyone in it.
